Maxim Baturin is a legal executive with over 14 years of professional legal experience, specializing in complex commercial disputes, insolvency, corporate and contract law, major transactions, and strategic legal support for business operations.

Maxim has built his legal career across both private practice and in-house corporate roles. Since 2018, he has been working at ERG Kazakhstan, initially focusing on litigation and legal advisory in commercial an corporate disputes, insovlceny matters, and transactional work, including cross-border issues.

In 2021, he was appointed Director of Legal Affairs of SSMPA JSC (Sokolov-Sarbai Minding Production Association, the largest local iron ore enterprise), leading the legal function of ERG's Iron Division in Kazakhstan.

In 2024, he transitioned to TNC Kazchrome JSC (the world's largest producer of high-carbon ferrochrome integrating chrome ore mining and ferroalloy smelting assets across four cities in Kazakhstan) as Head of Legal function of the ERG's Chrome Division in Kazakhstan.

Maxim holds education obtained both in Kazakshtan adn the United States, prviding a strong foundation in both civil law and common law systems. He is a recipient of the "Bolashak" International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2020, he co-authored the monograph "Civil Law of Kazakhstan and European Contract Law" developd as part of a research project focused on the implementation of elements of English contract law.

He is actively engaged in the development of the legal profession in Kazakhstan. Prior to his election as Chairman of the Management Board of KazBar he held the following leadership positions within the Chamber:
- Member of the Chamber’s Management Board (since 2022);
- Co-chair of the Commission for Monitoring the Activities of Chamber Members (2020–2022).

COMMERCIAL DISPUTES
- Coordinating the team and representing an ERG Group Company in court in a series of major commercial disputes related to debt collection from a counterparty totaling over $40 million;
- Representing an ERG Group Company in an arbitration proceeding at the AIFC International Financial Center against a counterparty for debt collection of $65 million;
- Advising and coordinating the legal team to represent an ERG Group Company in an arbitration proceeding in Sweden against a counterparty that supplied defective goods worth over $1 million;
- Coordinating and representing ERG Group Companies in litigation to initiate bankruptcy proceedings and apply rehabilitation procedures, as well as in the bankruptcy and rehabilitation proceedings themselves against counterparties with property claims in excess of $1 million;
- Protecting the interests of an ERG Group Company in a construction dispute related to the contractor's savings and property claims totaling approximately $1 million;
- Coordinating efforts to protect the interests of an ERG Group Company in a criminal case regarding damages and subsequent representation in court challenging the validity of a transaction concluded as a result of a malicious agreement between representatives of the parties for amounts exceeding $500,000.

CORPORATE PROJECTS AND DISPUTES
-coordinating and conducting the mandatory tender offer procedure with the minority shareholders of the ERG Group Company and the subsequent squeeze-out procedure of the Company's shares by the majority shareholder;
-coordinating and representing the interests of ERG Group Enterprises in corporate disputes related to the invalidation of share alienation transactions;
- participation in the working group on the development and transfer of claims and contractual work to the General Service Center of the ERG Group Enterprises being created;
-participation and implementation of projects for the restructuring and sale of non-core assets of the ERG Group of Companies;
- development and subsequent support of the MARC contract for over $280 million;
- development and subsequent support of a major supply agreement worth over $900 million.

SUBSURFACE USE
-coordination and participation in the preparation of documents for obtaining the status of holding licenses for the extraction of TPI in the context of changing economic circumstances.
